A Nagger No More

While reading Proverbs 21, there were two verses that struck me. First is Proverbs 21:9 that states, “Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.” Then after reading a few verses, I again met the same topic in the same chapter. In verse 19 it says, “Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife.” It made me realize how God emphasized the importance of not being a quarrelsome “nagging” wife.

I used to be a nagger especially in the first two years of our marriage. There would be times that I would hurt my husband with my words and say things that would really challenge his authority. Thus would result to frequent arguments and misunderstanding.

Proverbs 21:19 NIV

Thankfully God is always there to guide and change me to be a better person He wants me to be. As I continue to seek God I started to learn things His way. I even took the initiative to read books and search ways that would help improve our marriage especially in my part. With God’s wisdom and with the help of the Holy Spirit, I’m learning to zip my mouth whenever an argument is about to start between us. I’m learning to control my emotions so that I won’t tend to nag him especially when he had a really bad day at work. I’m learning to speak life and love (kind and uplifting words) to him instead of hurtful and nagging words whenever he commits mistakes. I’m also learning to watch my tone and choose the right time (like when I know he is in a bad mood)  to discuss serious matters with him.

I still fail at times but I see God’s hand working in me as I stand up over and over again. Yes, it takes a lot of hard work but as we continue to apply God’s word and truth in our lives we will surely reap its rewards.
